Officially on vacation mode!
During this time I will be
resurrecting my blog 'Away with Words'. A lot of interesting stuff I
published here dates back to 2007 and stretches all the way to 2009.
These were incredibly creative and productive years of my life as I
wrote a lot.
As I 'stumbled' upon my blog this evening after my
last day at work, I realised that I obviously had a lot on my mind back
then that just needed to find its way onto a blank canvas.
At that
particular point in time, I had recently arrived in Australia as a
Masters student. I had a lot of free time on my hands which I wisely
channeled into this blog in the form of verses and prose.
I wrote
about every single conceivable topic, from a review on the 40th
Anniversary of The Beatles' Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Album
to a Poem on the Global Financial Crisis entitled 'Green Benjamins' (http://fpimentel.blogspot.com.au/2008/…/green-benjamins.html).
And there were poems. Myriads of them.
Ground Control to Major Tom: I'm returning to the 'zone' again.
Let the writing begin.

DEAR JOHN
A POEM by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
Dear John,
you've been long gone
but the dream still lives on.
With peace, you can't go wrong.
The weak can't be subdued by the strong.
At least not for too long.
"Give Peace A Chance" you once wrote in a song.
Composed in your mother tongue,
it was a message so strong
that was heard form New York to Hong Kong.
And like the moon, the stars and the sun,
It still shines on, and on and on.

TO GABI
GABI, Amigona querida, estes versos são pra você:
"It's been quite awhile
since the last time I saw your smile.
Each and every day,
I've learned to miss your ways.
But be that as it may,
Your memory in me will never fade away."

I WANT A WOMAN
A Poem by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
I want a woman
Not just for fun
A hooker or a nun.
I want a woman
One I can’t trust,
to spark my lust.
I want a woman
Hanging on my wall
A hot sexy doll.
I want a woman
Someone I don’t know
To come and go.
I want a woman
To care and hold
Someone to grow old.

333 ANZAC PARADE
A POEM by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
I can clearly remember
riding the 393
from Hyde Park
to Kingsford’s round-a-bout.
The pavement, black
stretching from the CBD
to La Perouse.
I wanna go back.
333 Anzac Parade
Memories never seem to fade
cutting through
like a sharp, shiny blade.
From a balcony on unit 6B
I’ve seen many moons
and autumn leaves falling
from your maple trees.
Friends have come and gone
in this time we’ve been together.
For this I thank you
cause you’ve made my life better.

cutting through
like a sharp, shiny blade.

ONE MORE, BEFORE THE YEAR ENDS (version I)
A Poem by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
Looking back,
it was great.
Six more days,
and goodbye 2008!
Spending time
among friends.
A final poem?
That depends.
One more, before the year ends!
The wine is cold,
the glass is full.
Let us rule!
Young, instead of old.
I raise a toast
to all of those
I love the most!
Stay forever close!

A POEM by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
Looking back,
it was great.
Six more days,
and goodbye 2008!
Having fun
with my friends.
Clapping hands.
Singing tunes.
The wine is gold,
the glass is full.
Let us rule!
Young, instead of old.
I raise a toast
to all of those
I love the most!
Stay forever close!
A final poem,
with dividends.

INSOMNIA
A Poem by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
Rolling left, rolling right
can’t shut my eyes at night.
Staring at the alarm clock light
3:00 AM shinning bright!
A lot going on in my mind,
but absolutely no sleep.
Why do I bother counting sheep?
Nevermind!
Had a glass of milk.
Still wide awake.
Getting hot under this quilt.
Oh, please gimme a break!
Where the hell is Mr. Sandman?
Running late again.
That’s 5 nights in a row!
What if he decides not to show?
My thoughts are pure caffeine,
on the run and burning steam.
I don’t think I’ll get to dream.
This insomnia is really mean.
Keeping me up
and putting me down.
Turned my smile into a frown.
Damn this town!

TWENTY ONE
A Poem by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
Winner, winner
chicken dinner.
This is but a misdemeanor.
Who's the mighty winner?
Countin' fast,
playin’ cool.
I’m the best,
you’re a fool.
Countin' chips,
makin’ money.
Sailin' ships,
love me honey.
Drinkin’ liquor,
spreadin’ rumors.
Fancy humor?
Ask Wilbur.
Beat the rest,
I’m the best.
Put to test,
time to rest.
Havin’ fun,
about to shout.
Check it out,
twenty one!

WHITE CHRISTMAS
A Poem by: Fernando de Mello Pimentel
A time for joy
A time for love
A time for toys
A time for doves
White Christmas
A time for peace
A time for caring
A time for truce
A time for Mary
White Christmas
A time for brothers
A time for snow
A time for sisters
A time for soul
White Christmas
A time for Jesus
A time for tolerance
A time for us
A time for deliverance
